Melissa Cecala
Theatre Director
Melissa has been an avid arts supporter and performer for over 20 years. Locally, she has worked and performed with Hale Centre Theatre, Rodgers Memorial Theatre, The Off Broadway Theater, Poison Ivy Mysteries, Proletariat Theatre, University of Utah show choirs, and others. She has consistently held leading roles and received rave reviews, including a Best Actress award in the Deseret News (semi-professional, 2008). She has had years of training and experience in musical theater, voice, gymnastics, dance, piano, and costume design.
With a passion for children's programming, Melissa has directed numerous productions working with Studio Kids and other organizations. She oversees the dramatic, artistic, choreographic, and musical direction of the entire production, as well as the developmental curriculum for each class.
Previously, Melissa managed special programs, groups, and events at Discovery Gateway Children's Museum, including overnight camp-ins, birthday parties, library outreach programs, special performances and special events (e.g., Read Across America entertainment, Breakfast With Elmo, Arts Festival projects, etc.). She has also worked as a social & scholastic tutor for refugee children and led children's acting workshops with a touring choir. She considers herself very blessed to have had such an abundance of opportunities. She is also the proud mother of two.
