I look forward to tutoring children, grades K-3, in math. It would be on an individual basis and I would evaluate their needs based on input from the parent and the child. After their basic needs are vocalized, I will work with the child, doing tasks specific to their level of learning, to determine a where their area of need would be. 

 When I am tutoring in math I like to remember these 3 things:

In order for a child to understand a concept they are having trouble with, they may need to go back and re-learn a step that wasn't clear to them. Once they re-learn, then it is possible to re-teach the concept that was confusing.

Children learn best when they see it. I like to use manipulatives that can be moved around to focus on this. The children get to use more senses to understand the concept in this approach.

Once there two previous idea are in place, it cements it even further if they write down how to do the math they were confused about. If they can verbalize it then write it down, they can perform the process in their head. Writing it on paper is last.
